    Professor Emeritus Georg Wick, M.D.

   In 1975, Georg Wick was appointed as Professor and Chairman of the former Institute (later Section) of Experimental Pathophysiology
   and Immunology at the University of Innsbruck. In 1991, he got an additional appointment as the founding Director of the
   newly established Institute for Biomedical Aging Research (IBA) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, also in Innsbruck. In 2003, he
   was elected as the President of the Austrian Research Fund (FWF) and stepped down as the director of the IBA but continued his
   chairmanship at the Medical University of Innsbruck (MUI). After returning full time to the Lab in 2005, and his retirement in 2007,
   he led the fully grant-supported Laboratory of Autoimmunity (LAI) at the Biocenter of the MUI. In the spring of 2017, his
   last two PhD students graduated their doctorates and Georg Wick closed the LAI. A list of publications from the LAI can be found

   Georg Wick continues to be the Editor-in-Chief of GERONTOLOGY and is also responsible for a weekly series (each Tuesdays) on
   Austrian top research in all disciplines for a READERSHIP FAR FROM SCIENCE in the Kronenzeitung with 2.2 Million daily readers. He is
   also a member of the Scientific Boards of several institutions and now continues to perform applied medical diagnostic research in the
   private sector.
