Using a combination of behavioral, electrophysiological, anatomical and molecular approaches, we are studying the functional and anatomical properties of identified neurons connecting the amygdala with other brain areas imminent in processing of fear and anxiety. In particular, we are dissecting the anatomical organization and functional role of thalamic and cortical sensory afferents to the amygdala and that of identified amygdala projection neurons connected with the hippocampus and the prefrontal cortex.
