Students from Partner Universities
The Medical University of Innsbruck offers international students and graduates of our partner universities and network partners the opportunity to complete clinical electives and observerships at Innsbruck Hospital.
For medical students from countries outside the EU who are sent by partner universities or network partners, there is the opportunity to complete a four-week observership at the clinic.
An observership is intended for observation only and for becoming familiar with workflows, without taking on independent tasks involving patients. No employment relationship is established, but a volunteer agreement is concluded.
Requirements and Application Procedure
- If you study at a partner university, please first contact your home university to find out about the internal application procedure and nomination options.
- An official nomination from your home university is required for an observership at the Medical University of Innsbruck.
- Once the nomination has been received, you will receive a link to the online application.
Deadlines and Lead Time
- Nominations must be submitted at least six months before the planned start of the observership.
- We recommend that you submit your application as early as possible so that you have sufficient time for visa, insurance, and travel preparations.
If you have any questions, please contact the International Office or the office responsible for observerships at your partner university. For further information and to apply, please contact:

Students who do not belong to a partner university nevertheless have the option of independently requesting a place at the clinic. Whether an observership is granted is at the discretion of the respective clinical department and depends on its available resources. In this case, please contact the clinic directly.
